This year's best TV has been bold and a little strange, with plenty of genre-mixing. Here are the series worth making time for.
The Pitt — Season 2
2025SeriesDrama / Medical9.0
Medical drama · Starring Noah Wyle
One emergency-room shift, told almost in real time. It's tense, humane and hard to stop watching. Season 2 kept up the quality of the first, and a third season is confirmed.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
2026SeriesFantasy / Adventure8.8
Fantasy · Game of Thrones universe
A giant, good-hearted hedge knight and his sharp little squire wander Westeros a century before Game of Thrones. Smaller, warmer and funnier than the other shows in the franchise, and the better for it. Six episodes, easy to binge in a weekend.
Widow's Bay
2026SeriesHorror / Comedy8.4
Horror-comedy · Created by Katie Dippold, directed by Hiro Murai
Part small-town workplace comedy, part Stephen King–style horror. It's genuinely scary and genuinely funny, often in the same scene. The surprise hit of the year.
Industry — Season 4
2020SeriesDrama8.3
Drama
The finance drama keeps getting sharper and nastier. Great if you like ambitious people behaving badly.
Star City
2026SeriesSci-fi / Drama8.0
Sci-fi drama · Starring Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin
A spinoff of For All Mankind that tells the space race from the Soviet side. It's colder and darker than its parent show, which makes it gripping. Eight episodes.
Wonder Man
2026SeriesSuperhero / Comedy7.6
Superhero / Comedy
A superhero show that's really about acting, ambition and friendship. It's odd in a good way.
The 'Burbs
2026SeriesHorror / Comedy7.3
Horror-comedy · Inspired by the 1989 film
Paranoid neighbours, strange new arrivals and a suburban mystery. Fun and properly creepy.
Hacks

Still one of the sharpest comedies on TV.
